IMMEDIATE SUPPORT FOR TENANTS

THE LATEST ON THE EVICTION MORATORIUM:

As of January 15, 2022, New York’s state-wide eviction moratorium ended. Use this website to stay up to date on how you and other tenants in New York State can protect yourself from eviction.

The New York State Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) will provide significant economic relief to help low and moderate-income households at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability by providing rental arrears, temporary rental assistance, and utility arrears assistance.

This guide was created by The Ithaca Eviction/Displacement Defense Project and the Ithaca Tenants Union to provide general information to tenants in the City of Ithaca and surrounding areas about these rights and obligations. In this guide, you will find information regarding evictions, security deposits, building and maintenance issues, breaking a lease, organizing, housing discrimination and more. While much of this information will apply to all New York State residents, some of the information is specific to the City of Ithaca or Tompkins County.

Throughout all our housing work, one theme is incredibly consistent: landlords lie about housing law. Use the Residential Tenants’ Rights Guide to know and assert your rights, in order to protect yourself and other tenants you are organizing with.
